Stop at Cuenca?

Hi! Taking the train from Valencia to Madrid in early March. Is it worth stopping at Cuenca for lunch and sightseeing before finishing the journey to Madrid? It looks like there's no left luggage at the station but can probably find a private left luggage place near there.

Firstly note that not all rail services stop in Cuenca. For those that do, be aware you cannot just get off then join a later one. You'd need two tickets for that. Also, the fast Madrid-Valencia service which stops is at Cuenca – Fernando Zóbel Railway Station, which is about 5km from the city centre, so you'd need to use a taxi.
Nevertheless, Cuenca is a nice enough place to visit if you have all day for the trip. I'd do it. The aforementioned hanging houses are well worth a look.

Thanks. I understand it's 2 separate tickets and also the location of the train vs historical town center. What I can't find with my Google search is a left luggage place. Suggestions? It really sounds like Cuenca is worth the stopover.

Cuenca is well worth your time. Why don’t you contact the Cuenca tourism office to ask your question.

The upper historic town can be seen in 2-3 hours. It would make for a nice stop if you have the time. The town is nice for an overnight if it could be fit in. We stayed at the Parador on one visit and went there as a day trip from Alarcón on another trip.

There's at least one modern-art museum in town. If you're interested in that, you'll need a bit of extra time. In fact, I spent multiple nights in Cuenca and didn't run out of things to do. I'm big on walking around historic areas, though.

We spent two nights there last November. The station is in the middle of a rural landscape and if there is no luggage storage inside the station, there will be no place nearby to store it.

We enjoyed our stay there, at the parador. There is a large new town and, above, the historic district. (Possible luggage storage at a hotel in the new town?). The above-mentioned modern art museum is lovely, but quite small, and I walked through in less than an hour.

Overall I think it's well worth an overnight or a half-day visit.
I would look for lunch, or dinner if you stay, in the newer area, not in the historic district.
