Steep steps at La Pedrera?

Hi - I'm just sorting through reviews of Casa Batllo vs. La Pedrera and am going to make a decision. Someone who reviewed La Pedrera warned that there are very steep steps down from the roof with no handrail. Must one do the roof as part of the tour? I'm very petite so this doesn't sound safe for me. Wondering if this would tip the balance in favor of Casa Batllo. Thanks!

I don't remember anything about how I got up to and down from the roof except that it was accessed from the top floor of the building (sort of an attic). We're not talking about an exposed set of stairs on the outside of the building. I hope someone else comes along with a better memory than mine. If they do not, I suggest Googling "photos La Pedrera" and "photos Casa Mila" (the official name of the building). I really think you'll be OK; I'm uncomfortable myself with rail-less stairs, and I think I'd remember if those at La Pedrera were particularly challenging.

In any case, I don't think it's a problem to skip the roof.

Both Casa Batllo and La Pedrera are very interesting, so there would be nothing wrong with choosing Casa Batllo. However, in my experience it is sometimes slightly more crowded, and La Pedrera has the advantage of an interesting extra display about Gaudi's other buildings up on the top floor.

I don't think it is a problem skipping the roof. The steps are precarious especially if you're being the usual tourist looking out at the views and beautiful tile work. If you have a premium ticket you skip the line and take the elevator to the roof.

I'm sort of petite, 5'1". I don't recall having any problems with the stairs, even though I have a stiff ankle.

Maybe that particular reviewer has a balance problem, other lower extremity problems or not physically fit.
The roof is a lot fun. If you can manage the stairs, it's worth going.
