My husband and I will be traveling in late May (with a car). First day: Comprodon via Castellfollit de Roca, spend the night in Comprodon, second day: Beget, Sant Joan de Albadesses, Ripoll, Ribes de Freser (spend the night in Ribes de Freser), third day: train to Nuria, walk to Queralbs (spend the night....?) We're looking for suggestions for the last night (we have to be back in Barcelona the next day for a wedding). After the wedding we will head back to Aiguestortes and then to Ordesa (including Ainsa and Alquezar) but we'd love to get advice for the first part of the trip. Thanks
Sounds like a fantastic road trip, a lot of fascinating places you will visit that hardly any foreign tourists have heard of, but are well known to us locals for good reason, we love them! If you have one night between Ribes de Freser and Barcelona, I have two options for you:
For a smaller village feel I suggest Rupit, my favourite Pyrenees Mountain town. There are two main places to stay in town, Hostal Estrella and Fonda Marsal, they are both good so get whichever one you can. Nearby Restaurant Albert is excellent for local Catalan mountain food.
Other option is Vic if you want a bigger town feel, but is just as nice to visit. A few days a week they have a nice farmers' market day on the Placa Major. Vic is known for it's amazing Fuet sausages and the unique Vic Cathedral, a mix of Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque and Neoclassic styles. You can stop by Xarcuteria Solà S.c.p in the center of town to pick up some lunch supplies for sandwiches.
I commend you for doing a lot of good research already :)
