Is Uber (or Lyft) readily available in Barcelona? I read somewhere that regular taxis use the Uber app, but now I’ve been seeing conflicting info.
In most European cities only persons in possession of a taxi licence can transport passengers for a fee. So often when Uber does exist, it uses normal Taxis.
Personally I do not use Uber. In Barcelona I would use their excellent public transport system. Do not assume that Uber is available (or even welcome) anywhere in the world.
I don't think Lyft is available, and Uber has spotty coverage in Barcelona due to ongoing legal troubles with the city government. The best app to use is Freenow, which is like uber but allows you to tap into the taxi network to digitally hail a ride, you can also schedule a taxi for later.
That being said taxis are plentiful and cheap in Barcelona, and you should have no problem finding one within a minute of anywhere you are.
Lyft is only available in the US and certain cities in Canada.
Barcelona offers ample and well connected public transportation so take a gander at this link to become familiar with options:

Public cabs are great and relatively inexpensive.
Walking is hugely rewarding within Barcelona and have provided so many wonderful "just happened upon it" experiences.
