We are planning a trip to Spain in early September, and am wondering how to go about obtaining this Sr. Discount Card? Both my wife and I are over age 60. We would like to book an overnight train from Barcelona to Granada. Is this discount also available for the sleeping berth(s)?

You can only obtain the Tarjeta Dorada card in Spain, as you have to provide proof you qualify, passport in your case - terms and conditions - http://www.renfe.com/EN/viajeros/tarifas/tarjeta_dorada.html
I do not believe you can use the card for the TrenHotel.
Not what you asked, but have you ever taken an overnight train journey, if not are you quite sure it will suit you?

There will be an information booth in the train station. Present your passport and the euros and be given the card on the spot. Passport for both, in person. You might also check into purchasing tickets ahead of time and save even more if your trip is set. Can not change the tickets once you have them, however. See site The Man In Seat 61 for details. Another source is Trip Advisor, Purchasing Tickets on Renfe...it has specific instructions. Be sure to 'Register' at the first opportunity on the site...this will make the purchase much easier....I have no knowledge about the overnight train...Sorry.
