Hi
I purchased a Rail Europe Spain pass and made a few first class reservations. They were about $30 per person between Madrid and Barcelona and would be delivered electronically and charged in Euros. That seemed kind of high so i checked the Rick Steve's site and saw the same reservations for $12 per person. W ould that be correct? I almost bought the Rick Steve's tickets but it seemed they have to be mailed and I prefer to receive them electronically. I have two questions. 1. Can the Rick Steve's tickets be received electronically? 2. Would the reservation prices differe depending on which site i purchase them from?
Call the Rick Steves' office directly and ask your question. Anything here is second hand information.
There are two different products that don't work together. Rail Europe sells both, but we only provide a link to the first one.
Eurail Spain Pass - a paper ticket that's shipped to you, counts calendar days of travel, most passholder seat reservations cost $10-20.
Renfe Spain pass - all electronic, counts trip segments rather than calendar days, and seat reservations must be made online in chronological order of travel. It sounds like this is the one you have. I wasn't aware that reservations were $30 per person, but rates have sometimes been that high in the past with the other pass, especially in 1st class, if it includes a small meal.
