Spanish Civil War Walking Tour - Barcelona

Hi All,

Has anyone done the Spanish Civil War Walking Tour in Barcelona recently?

Posts on the forum related are older and although the website looks like it's maintained, I've not received a response to my email inquiry and wanted to see if anyone knew whether the tours are still running consistently.

Thanks!

We took it in mid January. When I didn't hear from him after about 4 days I sent another email and he responded the next day. I think he is just so busy he doesn't respond immediately. It is a fascinating tour, I highly recommend it!

I had the same experience as Syd. On my second try he responded right away and we are booked for late April. Now I am running into the same issue with the Wellington Society/Stephen Drake-Jones tours in Madrid. I will send another email this week to him.

Last March, yes. I thought it was well done and can recommend.

Patty, Wellington-Drake is slow to answer. We didn’t hear from him for about 2 weeks - he apologized, was on vacation. Be patient he’ll answer.

Barbara, your mention in your report was what sent us to him. I heard from him this morning and we’re all set! Initially, I used the link on his website to contact him, but I realized it never showed up as “sent”, so I sent it directly from my email and heard right away.

Just a quick note to say that we took this tour a few weeks ago and it was top-notch. Professional quality in terms of the context Nick provided and his memorabilia are fascinating. He's definitely busy (finishing a new book, I believe he said) so I think any delay in replying is due to that. He was really prompt scheduling our tour but then slower on a follow-up. This was easily the best thing we did in Barcelona and highly recommended for history buffs, Orwell fans, politics junkies, etc. Even our teenage daughter found it engaging!

I took Nick's tour in March 2023 and do recommend it. Unlike the Spanish Civil War tour in Madrid that I took, Nick's tour offers a very nuanced view of the Spanish Civil War with the Republicans' many rivalries and Stalinist influence.

Follow up - Unfortunately for us, we thought we had a tour scheduled, it was confirmed, but it was also a holiday. Nick realized that he would not be providing a tour that day too late for us (he emailed the week before, while we were already on our trip - at another destination) to rearrange. So, we did not get the tour. The lack of response and how busy he is may impact your plans so, as always, be prepared to be flexible!
