Spain Wine Region Tour

We are planning a wine tour to include Ribera del Duero and La Rioja at the end of March 2027.
Touchdown MAD, take the train to Valladolid and rent a car there to get to Ribera del Duero. Two nights there, move to Rioja for two more nights, then return to Valladolid to spend 1 night before heading back to Madrid.

Plan to visit 2 wineries per day and get a hotel at one of the towns historic centers.

What town is recommended at Ribera del Duero that has the tapas and bar hopping ambiance at night without need to drive?
At la Rioja; Haro vs Logrono? same thing, tapas etc..

Is 1 day at Valladolid enough? Where to stay?

Definitely Logroño over Haro.

Only me, but I’ve never found anything in Valladolid that drew me to want to spend a night there. I’ve driven by there multiple times, but never went into the city. Some people enjoyed it. In the Ribera del Duero area, the largest town is Aranda del Duero, so maybe check on hotels there.

With the lower tolerance limits to be considered under the influence, there should be a designated driver if doing wine tastings. On our trips we wait until the car is parked for the day to do any tastings.

When we went to Ribera del Duero, we stayed in a hotel that I thought was fantastic, but it was in a winery and not in a town.. The hotel has two excellent restaurants. For other meals, we drove to Campaspero to dine at the legendary MANNIX, which always tops the list of best restaurants in Spain, and is not at all expensive...and to other nearby towns including Roa, for other meals of suckling baby lamb, the speciality of the region...

Others I would stay in Valladolid...

I agree with Jaime, Logroño over Haro, especially for tapas. You can spend one night in Calle del Laurel and one in Calle San Juan. Plus from the old part there are two wineries you can walk to, Bodegas Franco Espanolas and Ijalba.

Just a heads up, Easter is the 28th, and in Logroño the first Holy Week procession is the 21st. There will be at least one everyday of Holy Week.

Near Valladolid is the Peñafiel castle/wine museum.
