Spain train tickets need validation?

We are going from Barcelona to San Sebastian on Renfe and have purchased and printed our tickets online. Do the tickets need any further action when we arrive at Sant or do we just board the train ? When in Hungary, we needed to validate tickets before boarding.....Weren't sure if that was the case in Spain. We also have other tickets for travel in other areas, as well. Do ANY train tickets need action before boarding? Thank you in advance

Your tickets have a bar code. They will either be 'wanded' by staff at the entrance to the platform or you place the ticket on the reader at the gateway to the platform and the gate opens. If you are departing at a remote station the staff on board the train will 'wand' the tickets and possibly when alighting, the gate procedure will apply.

Tickets with a seat reservation for a particular train do not need validation. That will be most cases and most likely for any tickets you bought online in advance. There are some tickets for local or regional trains that are general seating and valid for Point A to Point B or a zone. Those get validated.

The highspeed AVE trains do not need validation. And you have to show your ticket and pass through a security checkpoint too.
