My husband and I are planning a trip to Spain in April and we are going to break up sightseeing with a couple days at the beach - either Estepona (Gran hotel Elba Estepona) or Torremolinos (Melia Costa del Sol Torremolinos). Does anyone have a recommendation on choosing between the two? Thank you!

Would choose Estepona over Torremolinos tho' I know neither hotel. But, if you want to be near the airport, go for Torre.

I’ve not travelled to those beach areas as the advice has been that they are best avoided. Torremolinos is generally regarded as an overdeveloped section of coast, crowded with generic hotels, heavily touristed, and populated by expats. In other words, not a uniquely Spanish ‘experience’. Estepona appears to have a nice old town, so I’d go there.

Estepona if you want to get somewhat of a taste of Spain. T-town (as we called it when I lived in Spain) if all you care about is the beach. Torrmolinos is filled with expats and pubs and has more of a British feel than Spanish. The entire Costa del Sol is extremely busy during the tourist season. The Costa de la Luz isn’t quite as bad but still very busy; especially near Rota and Cadiz.
