Spain to Portugal in February

Attempting to plan a last minute trip from Spain into Portugal as first time travelers there. Also trying to stay as warm and dry as possible. Not too limited on time but eventually money. Considering Seville/Cordoba into Granda and on to Rhonda/White Villages. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

How many days do you have and what's your preferred transport? Have you checked flights and other transport into Portugal?

Typical cities/villages for first timers. How you intend to travel between places is a wildcard. You could start in Granada and work your way over to Sevilla, but that would probably only occupy less than half of your four weeks, leaving you two additional weeks to see things. Another factor is how often you are willing to change locations.

Since you mention Portugal, from Sevilla you could head west and spend time in Portugal and maybe depart from there. Another option from Sevilla would be to head north from Sevilla and spend time in the Extremadura region of Spain.

I always have a rental car, but it is frequently mentioned that public transportation between Spain and Portugal is not always practical with regard to frequency and options.

Andalucia is the warmest, driest part of Europe. Most of the tourist sights in Portugal are on/near the Atlantic Ocean. February is a good choice with relatively few tourists and low season prices on lodging. You can check past daily weather conditions by month for your destinations here. The only down side is that some more desirable places may be fully booked already. The best way to get from Spain to Portugal is by air. Overland, you'll need a combination of buses and trains and it's time-consuming with not much to see en route in winter. A one-way rental car is very costly because cause of the drop-off charge. Trains are fast, comfortable and efficient in most of Andalucia and in Portugal between Lisbon and Porto. I've twice spent 3 nights in Ronda with a car to visit the white villages. You could rent a car in Sevilla or Cordoba and drop it in Granada.

Thank you for both responses. I’ve never heard of extremadura and good to know about car rentals and weather app looks great!

We have flown from Seville to Lisbon on TAP Airlines. We have flown them several times, and they have always been reliable and on time. IMO, the easiest way and least stressful to travel from Spain to Portugal is to fly. Are you visiting Lisbon? If so, then fly from Seville to Lisbon.

We flew from Sevilla to Porto via Ryanair. It didn’t seem possible/practical to take a train. Maybe you could but it was a ridiculously long journey with connections (I can’t exactly remember). It was a short direct flight though.

I believe we are starting in tenerife (5 nights) and heading into spain: Seville (5 nights), Granada (4 nights), Ronda (3 nights) and driving to Malaga in order to fly into Faro Portugal and spend some time in Algarve region (3-4 nights). From there to Lisbon (5 nights and back home to US. Doing all of this in 30ish days. Is that too packed? My biggest concern is too much time in transportation and checking in and out of places.
