Spain-Tangier/Morocco

Traveling thru Spain in September, has anyone taken the ferry from Gibraltar to Tangiers in Morocco recently? I know things can change but did you feel safe, how did you find it? Just looking to go for the day. Thanks

Friends were in Tangiers for a week recently and enjoyed it. They never mentioned safety concerns.
