Spain suggestions?

I've just put down my deposits for the Best of Spain and Basque country tours. Assuming the tour dates work out (I'm still waiting for confirmation) I'll be there between mid-June and mid-July. I'll have seven days between the end of the first tour (in Seville) and the start of the second (in Bayonne). I know I want to go to Cordoba, but other than that, I'm not really sure where I'd like to go. This will be my first trip to Spain and I'll be traveling solo. I'm reasonably young and fit (mid-30s), but not into extreme hiking, etc. I'd also prefer to stick with public transportation. I'd be both grateful for and interested in any suggestions this board might have.

Thanks!

At a glance, your first tour is very, very light on Barcelona. I'd spend part of the time between tours there.

It may be very, very hot throughout that first tour. You might enjoy some mountain time in the Pyrenees afterward unless you anticipate that the Basque Country will be cool. I haven't been to that part of Spain and France yet, so I don't know what sort of weather is to be expected in July.

Thanks, acraven! I agree that the tour is light on Barcelona, so I'll be flying at least two days early.

Leon and Burgos are two northwest inland options, stops on the Camino de Santiago, with good gothic cathedrals and old town areas. From Cordoba, you can get to Leon by train with one connection in Madrid. From Leon, direct trains run to Burgos and continue to San Sebastian/Irun. Or, if you took a train from Leon to the coast at Gijon, then you would continue along the coast by either bus or slow, narrow-gauge train, with some coastal stops and views of the Picos de Europa mountain range.

I'd throw Salamanca into the mix.
Sevilla > Córdoba > Salamanca > Leon > Burgos > San Sebastián
