Spain reopening in June per Secretary for Tourism

Not an official announcement, but a pretty solid sounding statement:

“Spain is going to be ready in June to tell all travelers worldwide that you can visit us,” Fernando Valdes Verelst, Spain’s secretary of state for tourism, said during an April 27 panel discussion at the World Travel & Tourism Council’s (WTTC) Global Summit in Cancun, Mexico.

Interesting. Reading that it was difficult to determine if I would be admissible. I had the Astra Zeneca vaccine. It mentions the Moderna, Pfizer and J&J.

I guess it doesn't really matter as I have no plans to travel this year, and certainly not before the fall when things could change again. And I need Canada to lighten up on the return cautions.

Andrea-

The key there is that the article was written specifically for the US market: "The three vaccines that have been approved for use in the United States—Pfizer/BioNTech, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson—have all been approved for use in Europe."

AZ has been approved in Europe, so would be included. AZ has not been approved in the US, so was left off that very specific list of overlapping approvals.

Thanks Scudder for the clarification. That's a relief, even if not pertinent to my life just now!

Regarding any vaccine prohibitions, how many Russians and Chinese are anxiously awaiting getting to Spain, and could they be restricted?

The Chinese vaccine is 50/50 why would you allow anyone in with that ?

Lets see, hmmmmm, you are 70 years old, you live in Albania and the odds of getting anything else in the next 18 months is nil to none. Yup, that might be a reason.

Frank II: Thanks, good info. And that list is just those where the vaccine will get you in (not always for Americans though). With a PCR test there are a lot more to choose from. I would follow up first here: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/COVID-19-Country-Specific-Information.html where first you get the embassy's current understanding, and usually a link to the national site.

As for rules changing at the blink of an eye. Yes, I suspect more will open at a blink of an eye. But I dont know of any that opened last year with a PCR test that have closed. Changing in country restrictions, yes.

So apparently Spain put out a new bulletin on Friday that 3rd counties as they call them like the US have an extended travel band till the end of the Jun 30th. This is mind boggling because President Sanchez mentioned a couple of weeks ago that these countries would be allowed in on the 7th. Does anyone have any clarity on this bulletin if it's finalized or just a proposal?

We have tickets to arrive in Barcelona on the 7th. Relied on the may 21st pronouncement of PM( was hoping to be awarded a bobblehead of PM as one of first to arrive from states ,ha ha)

Jokes on me . Yes , the Spanish gov't issued an official written declaration on May 29 stating US citizens not admitted til July 30th. You can find a description of this reversal at www.thelocal.es website, with a link to the declaration( in spanish).

Also see tripadvisor spain forum. Much discussion. Someone with tix to Madrid heard about the reversal and called the Spanish consulate in Houston. She said they confirmed June 30th.

Funny , Delta has-been lagging behind this issue for weeks. Just today when I pulled up my reservation it said Spain opens June 7th". Do they know something we don't? Guessing not. And don't try calling them. I did a few days ago, "estimated " 2 hour wait-- I hung up to get some sleep at the 6 hour mark.

If Spain is delaying til July and they are usually more lax about letting tourists in I cannot see other countries (France) letting us in any earlier.
