I am helping some friends plan a trip to Spain/Portugal for October, 2015. Let us know what you think:
Fly to Madrid. Madrid (4 nights).
TRain to Sevilla (4 nights). Stop in Cordiba on the way.
Pick up car. Drive to Pueblos Blanco (3 nights).
DRive to Extremadura (3 nights).
Drive to Fatima, Portugal (2 nights).
Drive to Coimbra or Porto (2 nights)
Drive Santiago de Compostela (3 nights)
DRive to Zamora (1 night)
Drive to Aranda del Duero (2 nights)
Drive to Segovia and then on to Madrid.
DRop off car.
Madrid (4 nights). Day trips to Toledo and Cuenca by train.
Really need advice about the trip. Also what city to stay in different areas (Andalucia, Extremadura, Portugal) to use as base for train, bus trips in the area. Also, information about Zamora-where to stay and do. They are basically using as a stop point to cut the driving time. This is their second time in Spain so they have seen other places.
Also, anything they should add or remove. Thanks, Gladys
It sounds like they're moving at a moderate pace, not too rushed. Not many tourists spend 2 nights and a full day in Fatima, but you could daytrip to Batalha on the same day. Nazare is also a workable home base, on the coast. I quite liked Coimbra but have not visited Porto for comparison.
