Spain itinerary feedback appreciated!

Hi All,

I have started working on an itinerary for a solo trip to Spain. I will likely be traveling off season in either mid February or mid November. All in country travel will be by train.

Would love any feed back on the order of cities, the length of time spent in each etc. Also feedback re travelling during mid February and mid November would be appreciated as well.

I don't like to feel rushed when I'm travelling, or like I'm just ticking things off a check-list, so I'm worried I have too much scheduled. I'm tempted to take off Granada, but am worried that is the wrong choice.

I don't usually revisit countries, so this may be my only journey to Spain. Though you never know!

Barcelona - 4 nights

  • Daytrip to Monserrat about 1 hour by train each way
  • Possible daytrip to Girona about 1 hour by train each way

Train to Cordova about 5 hours

Cordova - 2 nights

Train to Seville about 1 hour

Seville - 4 nights

  • Day trip to Ronda by bus about 2 hours each way

Train to Granada about 3.5 hours

Granada - 2 nights

Train to Madrid about 3.5 hours

Madrid - 4 nights

  • Day trip to Toledo about 1 hour each way

  • Day trip to El Escorial about 1 hour each way

Thank you for your help!

For San Lorenzo de El Escorial, the highlight for me was the pantheon of kings and queens. It does have free entrance hours: From October-March entry is free from 15:00-18:00 (Wednesday & Thursday). According to the website, the suggested visitation time is 2 hours. Last admission is 1 hour before closing. Anyway, if you could make it during the free hours, you could save some money. Other than the monastery/Royal seat, there’s little else to see in the town.

No issues here looks good to me! The order is logical and each city gets an appropriate time :)

Keep in mind that 4 nights means you’ll have 3 full days.
So… 4 nights in Barcelona with 2 day trips.
That only leaves one full day, and a few hours, to explore Barcelona. Not enough time IMHO.

4 nights in Seville with one day trip leaves you with 2 full days there. And so on…

My 2 cents…
I’d suggest enjoying each destination on your list minus the day trips.

One exception: You may consider an overnight in Toledo instead of a day trip.

Wishing you a wonderful trip!

Not sure about Montserrat in mid-February; it could get quite cold there! I do think you'll need to choose between Girona and Montserrat, as you'll need time in Barcelona itself.
Otherwise, the route looks good.

Days are longer in February, though November may have less rain. You can check past weather at this site.

There are many many things to do and sights to see in Bracelona, more than any of your other places. Ronda is not worth a day trip from Sevilla. I'd think long and hard about dropping Granada, there's a reason the Alhambra is the #1 sight in Spain.

Echoing the above, but specific to Madrid—seeing the city itself is rushed with less than three full days, side trips apart.
