Hi! We are traveling to Spain (arrive in Madrid and leave from Barcelona) in early June for 14 days. There are 4 of us - our kids are 15 and 21. I thought we would stay 5 nights/ 4 full days in Madrid, with a day or 2 of side trips to Toledo/Avila/Segovia/Salamanca (?). Then take the train to Barcelona, spending 4 nights there before renting a car and driving up to Costa Brava where we will spend 4 nights before returning to Barcelona to sleep before our return flight. I am wondering if instead we should take a day from Madrid and Barcelona and travel down to Sevilla? Also I am still looking for the town in Costa Brava that can be our base for those last days. Thank you for any help!

For the Costa Brava I like Llafranc (pron Ya-frank).
Llafranc is a charming resort set in the province of Girona, on the Costa Brava in Catalonia. The coastline is typically small coves with sandy beaches punctuated by rocky headlands covered with pine forests. An attractive traditional Spanish seaside town, it has managed to side step any major development.
Llafranc is perfect for families and couples looking for a laid-back, yet enjoyable resort, close to great beaches and the attractions of the Girona and the Costa Brava.
The tree lined seafront promenade has some good bars and restaurants, and makes for a delightful evening stroll. You can even take the headland path, which takes you round to the next town, Calella Palafrugell, where there are more excellent restaurants.
There is a lighthouse at the headland Cap Sant Sebastia, where you can enjoy wonderful views to Llafranc and the bay, Calella de Palafrugell, Forcats Point, Cap Roig, Cap de Planes and the gleaming Mediterranean.
It is easy to visit the nearby towns and beaches of Calella de Palafrugell and Tamariu, Aigua Blava and Sa Tuna. A little further along the coast is the busy tourist resort of L’Estartit.
Catalunya's 2nd city, Girona, is 56 kilometres by car and is of major historical and cultural significance.
Thank you so much David! Your itinerary makes so much more sense with ending in Barcelona! And I didn't want to cram too many places on this trip, yet I felt like my plan was a little less ambitious than it could be. I think it will be great to visit both Sevilla and Cordoba. And your recommendations for Costa Brava are great - thanks again!
Fly to Ibiza, drop the kids off there and continue on to do your own thing. Pick them up two weeks later......they'll thank you for it!
