Spain itenarary

Hello all,

I'm planning a trip with family including 2 kids around 15 years old and am thinking of following:

Madrid - 3 nights

Seville - 2 nights

Drive to Granada 6th day with day stop in Ronda

Granada - 1 night (6th night)

Barcelona - 4 nights

Is this a reasonable plan? Hoping it's not too rushed.

Any tips and suggestions will be much appreciated

Thanks
Rajan

Not really reasonable. Day 6 - even if you rent the car the evening of Day 5 so you can get an early start, you won't get to Granada until late afternoon. If you are leaving on Day 7, you have no time to spend in Granada. If you want to see the Alhambra, you need nearly a full day. The shortest way to Barcelona from Granada is to fly and even that will use 1/2 day.

Also, if you are going in summer, keep in mind that Madrid, Sevilla, Ronda and Granada are quite hot, with temps usually in high 90s to over 100.

Thanks a lot Chani. My thought was to get to Alhambra by 10am do a guided tour for about 3 hours and then catch a late evening flight out of Granada. But you have made me re-think and perhaps I can stay the night and catch first flight to Barcelona.
Thanks again.

I believe you're way too optimistic about that Seville-Ronda-Granada drive, which ViaMichelin estimates at over 4-1/2 hours. That doesn't include any stops, a search for parking or actual sightseeing time in Ronda (which is not a tiny little town). Dropping Ronda would save you at least 1-1/2 hours of driving.

Your current plan doesn't appear to allow time for Cordoba, Toledo or Segovia, so I'd give serious consideration to skipping the less-accessible Granada on this trip and going instead for the low-hanging fruit. It's a shame to go to the trouble of getting to Granada (and from Granada on to Barcelona) and not have adequate time to see its major sight. Be aware that there is at least one company offering tours of the Alhambra that do not include the Nasrid Palace. You do not want to settle for one of those.

Thanks so much acraven. Your suggestion is helpful. As i reconsider let me clarify further on the planning:

Day 1: Arrive Seville by 12:30pm and do a walk tour covering Alcazar, Catherdral and Plaza Espana
Day 2: Drive to Ronda. Start around 10am and stay as late as 5pm. Continue to Granada
Day 3: Alhambra in the morning and whatever else we can cover rest of day. Stay night in Granada
Day 4: catch flight mid day to Barcelona from Granada

I understand Seville is cut short and not ideal but i believe this may give me a flavor for the places.

Please let me know your thoughts.

I would drop the 'Ronda by road' portion of your trip.

  1. Arrive Madrid - 3 nights
  2. Madrid
  3. Day to Toledo
  4. Train (via stop in Cordoba for Mezquita) to Seville - 2 nights
  5. Seville
  6. Train to Granada - 2 nights
  7. Visit the Alhambra
  8. Early morning flight to Barcelona - 3 nights
  9. Barcelona
  10. Barcelona
  11. Depart Barcelona
