My wife and I, seniors, are planning a trip to Spain in early November. We wish to see Barcelona, Madrid, Toledo, Granada and Ronda in 15 days. Any suggestions as to weather, the trip from the north (Madrid) to the south (Granada). All suggestions would be appreciated. Larry
I'd start north and work south to give yourself the best chance at decent weather. It can get really cold in the north. Hopefully it won't be too bad in early November.
On my last visit to Spain (through the end of October) daily high temperatures all over the country felt warmer than annual average charts had predicted (and made Amsterdam and Seattle a cold shock to follow).
I would start by flying into in Madrid (3) before heading to Toledo (1). Then south to Seville (3) before making your way cross country to Granada (2) via Ronda (1) (or vice versa). Finally fly to Barcelona (4) for your final stop before heading home - check Vueling for cheap fares. November can be a 'get lucky' month for the weather in Spain - my fingers will be crossed for you. Buen viaje amigos.
I second djp_syd's itinerary.
I found Madrid to be a good starting point and Barcelona good ending point. A great example was visiting the Picasso museum in Barcelona. They had an exhibit of Picasso's analysis of Las Meninas. Seeing Picasso's versions was much more meaningful after having seen the original Las Meninas in the Prada.
I also liked the progression of atmosphere of the cities. To me Madrid was more big city business like. Seville was small town. Granada was bohemian and Barcelona was fun.
Joe, I like your description of each cities atmosphere.
