Spain Health Travel Form - When should you complete it?

Hi! We are traveling to Barcelona March 2022. I understand that we all need to complete the Spain Health Travel Form but how early should we complete the form? I have read where a few people had trouble with the site and didn't get their QR code in time to travel so I want to give us plenty of time in case there are issues. However, I didn't know how early might be too early. We leave March 11th. My thought was to upload everything the last week in February. I welcome any advice, thanks!

We did ours the day before we travelled. Friends are going tomorrow and did theirs today. You have to complete it within 48 hours of your flight, so doing it too early is pointless.

Ditto what Jennifer said.

Before your trip to Spain:
Create an FCS form: Once you have your travel details, you can create and fill out the FCS form. You can start filling it out whenever you want, and continue later, at any time, thanks to the unique code you will receive in your email.
Obtain your QR Code: You can answer the health questions on this form 2 days before your trip and obtain the QR code associated with your trip. You will receive a document in pdf format with the QR code in your email, or directly on your mobile phone if you create the FCS form and fill it out using the SPTH mobile application, downloadable from this website or from the application download sites for Android and Apple devices.

Link to the Travel Health Site, or you can download the app.

The Spanish health website won't allow you to complete it more than 48 hours prior to arrival (even if your airline sends out an automated email advising you to do so earlier!). It was very easy to complete and submit the application; our QR codes were emailed immediately. By the way...once you have the QR code it is very easy to enter Spain. We arrived in Barcelona earlier this week; the process for scanning your code and leaving the airport was well-organized.

Awesome! Thanks! I have it on my calendar to complete 2 days before travel.

Note what Den says…. It is 48 hours before your ARRIVAL in Spain.

Agree that it is an easy process. We landed in Spain 2 weeks ago and had no issues.

I did mine in 2 minutes at the airline check in counter.

The app asks for a seat number for the arriving flight, but Iberia wasn’t assigning in advance (because—Iberia.) The American Airline check in agent needed the form filled before she could check me in, so told me to just make up a seat number.

Hello!

Thank you for the information on the Spain Health Travel Form.
We are planning a trip to Madrid and Seville from the U.S. in Sept. 2022. We are currently fully vaccinated and boosted.
By then we would probably need another booster.

Our Air bnb host in Madrid said a negative PCR Covid test is not necessary to enter or leave Spain. However, I have read on other Spain travel sites that you did need a Covid test. Our concern is that if we ever test positive upon returning, we would have to stay and quarantine another 7 days.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You!

The requirement for a test before getting on a flight from Spain to the US is a US requirement, not a Spanish requirement.

Hi!
I thought it would be too good to be true, not to need a COVID test.
Happy and safe travels to all going to Spain in the next months.
Thank you for clarifying!

We are traveling to Barcelona on a cruise from the US arriving in early May. How will this requirement apply in my situation?

Nancyp:

Traveling to Spain will mean you will be subject to all regulations Spain and any destination among its autonomous communities at the time of your travel.

Couple of questions to clarify things regarding the health form and travel to Spain. There are three of us traveling to Spain next week. We each have the SPtH App on our phones, and have completed the forms to the point where it notes that the following steps are blocked until 48 before arrival. The only input we have made to that point is our personal information, flight information and where we are staying.

Questions:

There is a box to check regarding if the address given “is permanent for your entire stay in the country”. Since we are going to be staying at other locations / hotels, I did not check the box. Is this correct?

No where in the process did it require the addition of a passport or vaccination cards (unlike the Passé Sanitaire we completed for our trip to France last fall). Is there a place where you will need to add them in prior to travel or do you just need to have them with you when you arrive in Spain?

Once you reach the completed point for now (where you are blocked until 48 hours before arrival) there is a link at the bottom which note “My DCCs”. If you click on the My DCCs link in the link it shows a + sign to add documents, and then it notes choices such as QR code, photo and files. Is this where you would add the Passport and vaccination card images?

One other slightly off-topic question, my daughter would like to see Gibraltar, but with all of the issues of Covid, we are wondering if this might be out of the question as it is a British territory and might require additional documentation/identification activities.

@kenm49 - in response to your first question, I’d leave it blank since you are moving around. Have the addresses of the other places you’ll be staying available so you have them in case you’re asked.

The add DCCs should be where you’d upload you vax status and other documents, if required.

Regarding Gibraltar, you provide no information as the whether you’ll already be in the area, making a separate trip to it, how you’re traveling around Spain, or what you want to see on Gibraltar. At most it’s worth a couple hours if all you want to do is go up the hill to see the overly aggressive monkeys. If you simply want to say you saw the rock, you can do that from the Spanish side of the border at La Línea de la Concepción. Here’s a link to the entry requirements from the gov.uk site. I’ll assume it’s the most current.

@kenm49:

You have correctly left the box unchecked. As I remember, we just had to enter the first address where we stayed while in Spain.

You’ll enter passport and vaccination info in the 48-hour window prior to your arrival in Spain. It’s very straightforward.

We did not upload any documents when completing the form. Everything (passport + vaccination card) was verified using our actual documents at the airport, at both departure and arrival airports.

I can’t help you with Gibraltar; I’ve never been, except to see it from the Spanish coast. We had it on our “maybe” list for our trip last month, but we decided not to go, both because we thought it would be too complicated and also because we were having too much fun in Spain.

Have a great trip!

Thanks @jaimeelsabio and @DebVT,

Should have been more clear on Gibraltar. We will be in Andalucia, traveling by car along Costa del Sol then through Ronda and staying in Granada before returning to Malaga to fly home. I’ve been to Gibraltar for a few hours before. My daughter was hoping to do the same. But, for a few hours of seeing the pubs, the rock and the monkeys, I am not sure if dealing with British, and then again with Spanish, Covid protocols would make it worth the time.

Thanks for the confirmation regarding the “permanent stay” box. Didn’t see any place to get information on the site so I wasn’t sure.

As for the DCCs. I may take a look at “adding them” ahead of them if that is what they need anyway (Passport and Vaccination Card).

As an add on, the tourism bureau of Andalucia is offering “free Covid insurance” according to our hotel website and the link they provide. Has anyone had reason to use this insurance due to a positive Covid test? It sounds like they are doing this to encourage tourism. It may help for reducing our worries about the 24 hour Covid test required to return to the US.
