Does the spain guidebook give recommended local guides for each city?

Yes, Rick's book does have those recommendations for each city. In Barcelona, for instance, private guides cost in the neighborhood of €230- 250 for a 4-hour half-day. Many of them cooperate in the www.barcelonaguidebureau.com. A 2-hour public/group walking tour tends to cost €15-20 per person, or more if it includes admission to some paid sites.
