Spain for 10 days in late October

Hello my friends,
We have a round trip flight booked from the east coast of US to Madrid in late October. We will be there for 10 days. I am open to any and all suggestions in terms of an itinerary and what to see and do. Should we spend a few days in Madrid, take in some of the sights and then fly to Barcelona? Many thanks. Also, is it wise to rent a car or depend on taxis and trains.

Thanks in advance

Barcelona is a gateway city, so leave it for a future trip. Late October is a good time for Andalusia, so after arrival in Madrid head south.

Love of diversity over an intense 10 night trip ...

Day
01. Arrive Madrid. Train to Seville (2 nights)
02. Seville sights
03. To Cordoba (1 night)
04. To Ronda (1 night)
05. To Granada (2 nights)
06. Visit Alhambra
07. To Madrid (4 nights)
08. Madrid sights
09. Day to Toledo
10. Day to Segovia
11. Depart Madrid

Bonbon,

It would be helpful to know what your interests are.

Do you have a guidebook? Have you been to Spain before?

Do the 10 days include travel days? How many nights will you have in Spain, 10 or 11?

Here is where I'd go if I only had 10 nights...

  • Arrive Madrid then take train to Córdoba on day of arrival (2N)
  • Train or bus to Granada (2N)
  • Train or bus to Sevilla (3N)
  • Train to Madrid (3N)

If you have an extra night, you may want to add it to Madrid so you can take a day trip to Toledo or Segovia.

Don't forget to book your Alhambra tickets 3 months in advance!

You may check train schedules on Renfe.com

Have fun planning your trip!

Are you driving, taking a bus, or train? Transportation will determine what others recommend. I always have a rental car except for in the big cities. That allows me to stop at some of the more out of the way locations, like many castles, hermitages, windmills, etc., not regularly served or accessable by buses or trains.

I second the comments of djp_syd. He recommended the exact cities we visited last October. We had struggled with whether to fit in Barcelona, but decided we didn't have time for it and didn't regret that choice. We had 13 days instead of 10 so your trip would be a bit more rushed but I honestly don't know what I would eliminate. We felt that every town was unique and worth it! We used trains and buses and booked part RS recommended hotels and part airbnb apartments. It was a fabulous trip! I hope you have a great time too!
