Spain/Andorra

An upcoming two week trip involves flying into Barcelona; spending a few days their and its nearby environs such as Girona then traveling by car up through Andorra to Pampalona, on to San Sebastian then traveling eastward to Santander possibly as far as Oviedo then heading south to Burgos and to the Madrid airport. Was just wondering if anyone has knowledge of any little "nuggets of beauty/interest" on the way. We really like the small villages of Europe but any other recommendations as to sights to see and things to do would be GREATLY appreciated.

Many thanks,

Richard

Santander is actually west of San Sebastian, just so you don't get turned around. :)

Guernica -- emplomatic of recent Basque culture. The food market is pretty good, excellent if cherries are in season.

Butron castle -- misplaced from Bavaria, but it might not be open to the public anymore.

Vizcaya Bridge -- designed by one of Eiffel's henchmen, ride the suspension ferry on foot one way, walk the top coming back for a view up the Nervion, eat a bowl of the little black eels on the Portugalete side.

Windmill on the cliffs above Algorta, it's now a restaurant, take a fat wallet.

Drive the old twisty cliff road west of San Sebastian instead of using the inland freeway.

Don't plan on spending a lot of time in Andorra unless you're a stamp collector.

Give more time than you'd think to Burgos.

Besalu is a nice Medieval town not far outside of Girona on the way into the mountains. Worth a stop and stroll through town over the old stone bridge. Easy free parking lot at the roundabout before you cross the river.
