Hi everyone! I am flying into Barcelona for a 2 week trip to spain and am wondering if I should add Costa Brava to my itinerary. Here is my current itenerary:
Day 1: Arrive in Barcelona
Day 2: Fly to San Sebastian
Day 3: San Sebastian
Day 4: Day trip to Hondaribbia Beach & Saint Jean De Luz
Day 5: Bilbao & San Juan de Gaztelugatexko
Day 6: Bilbao
Day 7: Santander
Day 8: Drive through and stop along Santinllana del Mar, Comillas and Llanes
Day 8: Llanes
Day 9: Oviedo
Day 10: Barcelona
Day 11: Barcelona
Day 12: Barcelona
Day 13: Barcelona
Day 14: Fly home
What time of year? I don't think you have enough time to add Costa Brava unless you are adding days. Have you purchased airline tickets? If not, is it possible to fly into San Sebastian? Are you driving Oviedo to Barcelona? Its a long way.
Going in July. The only airline tickets booked are flying in and out of barcelona. Planning to fly back to Barcelona from Oviedo.
I didn't find Santander very interesting, though there are lovely beach views. Unless you have a special reason for going, I'd use that night somewhere else.
Edited to add: Much of Santander was destroyed in a massive fire during the 1950s , so it doesn't have as much historic architecture as one might expect.
In case you are not aware, one reason the north coast of Spain is so popular in the summer is that hot weather there is very unusual while most of the rest of the country sizzles. The flip side of that is that on any given day you cannot be sure of beach weather. Having back-up plans is a very good idea if your plans include beach visits.
