South of Spain Trip

Would appreciate feedback on trip flow and number of nights at each location. This would be a Leisurely trip. I have already visited Seville. Other good to know info is welcomed.

Madrid: AVE to Cordoba
Cordoba: 2 nights. Train to Granada.
Granada: 4 nights. Train to Malaga.
Malaga: 3 nights. Daytrip to Nerja or Antequera. AVE to Madrid.

To me, 4 nights in Granada is too many. Three nights and two full days is sufficient. You’ll want one day for the Alhambra complex and another day to see the rest of the city’s sights.

Priego de Cordoba is workable as a day-trip from Granada. If you're outdoorsy, the Alpujarras are good walking country.

I agree with the poster who said that 4 nights in Granada was too much. Cordoba is much more interesting. A good day trip is Madina Azahara, an archaeological site, the palace of an 10th c. sultan.

I liked Cordoba more than Granada, though the Alhambra will take most of a Granada day. I'd agree with the others that three nights ought to be enough for Granada. I had two nights in Cordoba and that was about right. A third night would have let me see more outside the old center.

Tip for Cordoba: Don't bother with the Museum of Andalusian Life at the south end of the old bridge, I found it hokey and not well organized. Walk about halfway across the bridge for a good view of the city and Mezquita, then turn around.

If you have not booked airfare then please check on flying open jaw, into one city and out of another, in order to avoid back tracking on your journey.
