I accidentally deleted the first thread, but now want to ask if realistically we can visit Montserrat monastery( UNESCO site) in HALF a DAY if we don't do any special tours? Any info on trains etc would be helpful. Thank you in advance!!
I think you could do Montserrat in half a day but it really deserves a full day.
If you would consider a guided tour they have half day tours so assume you could do on your own. We did a half day tour combined with a winery tour last fall.
A well-planned half day would IMO be a stretch, but doable.
That probably means catching the 8:13 train from Place d'Espanya which gets you on the mountain by 9:40ish. You could be back in Barcelona by 1pm if you just focus on the main area with the monastery. It just seems like you'd be going to a lot of the hassle for only some of the awesome payoff, but that's entirely your call.
Maybe a tour with a driver makes sense if you're in a big hurry.
half a day, but take the early train.
I agree with the comments that a half day would be pushing it and a full day more worthwhile. You can take an early train and then plan to leave by a train around 4. (So maybe more like a 3/4 day). Can be back in Barcelona easily for dinner.
