Something other than Civita daypack for evenings?

We will be in Madrid on our first tour soon. I will use my Civitia daypack for hauling around my gear during tour days, but wondered what other ladies have done for dinner/evening time. I have a small Sherpani cross-body bag that holds my phone, credit cards and a lipstick. I was wondering if that would be easier, and more presentable for evening than continuing with the daypack. We'll be in our tour clothes so it's more about comfort and ease than about fashion. What have other ladies done? Thanks!

My wife has a day pack, yet also has a cross body purse. If she thinks it might get cooler or rain in the evening, she may take the pack with a jacket, shawl, or umbrella. If not, she’ll use the purse. I always have a backpack day or night. Unless you’re going to a high-end restaurant, nobody will notice. Whichever is easier for you.

I think you'll be happy to have the smaller bag option along with you. After carrying a certain amount of gear around all day, you're happy to be rid of it and just walk out to dinner with a map or minimal supplies. But if it's warm weather, you may not have many pockets.

On a tour I often will use my day pack as my bus bag and also have a purse. I use a LeSportSac Deluxe Everyday bag for most days. If it's raining and I know I will want my rain jacket zipped up I use the Eddie Bauer Connect Travel Wallet.

I started using the EB wallet while on the plane. I travel solo and was just slightly anxious about leaving my passport,CC/DCs, money, etc unattended in my bag at my seat so wanted to have things on me. I'm now less anxious about that but I still use it on the plane for my passport until I get thru Immigration. The EB wallet works great for dinner as well. It holds money, CC, a package of Kleenex, chapstick....all the essentials!!

I don't usually take my day pack around with me but if I had it with me, no problem taking it to a tour group dinner. About half the people will probably have them also. Unless you've been to the hotel between touring and dinner the guide will likely have a day pack, too.

Have a wonderful time!

Totally up to you. I carry a cross-body purse that is suitable for evening as well as daytime so I don't need to switch. I personally wouldn't want a backpack for going out in the evenings. For fashion, but also for ease - some Spanish bars/restaurants are very small and a backpack will make it harder to squeeze your way through crowds. Also, you don't need as much stuff at night in my experience. If I were set on a backpack then I'd also pack a small crossbody bag or purse. One that folds pretty near flat when empty so it doesn't take up much room, and is lighter weight.

My life improved when I realized I didn't need to lug around a big bag of stuff all day when touring. I buy clothing with hidden pockets and use my pants pockets for things like emergency meds, tissues etc. I sure wouldn't want to lug a pack around in the evening. You'd be surprised at how little you actually use on any given day and how often you can get by just fine without luggage constantly slung over your shoulder. A small cross body purse is not only useful evenings but also plenty for much touring during the day.

1) think about PacSafe type products which have steel cabling throughout, so they can't be slashed off of you.
2) my wife has a PacSafe purse that's large enough to hold a coat/sweater, wallet and water bottle - the main items needed for a day.

I always carry a smaller bag inside my larger bag. At night when I don't need all my travel gear, I use the smaller bag to hold my phone, tissues, Chapstick, etc. It's what I call my dinner essentials bag. It's lightweight, small and takes up little room in my larger bag when flying.
