Soller vs Alcudia

My family (10 adults and 1 four year old) are going to Mallorca for vacation this summer, the first week of July. We’ve narrowed our search for a home down to one outside of Soller (with ac and a pool) and one on the beach in Alcudia. We are a mixed bunch -some want to go to the beach a lot, some want to go to the beach some but also hike, explore, see charming towns, go to a winery or two, see some caves, etc. besides the 4 year old, we range from 25-64 years old and are all active.
Any thoughts on where we should make our home base?

Soller wins hands down for me every time. I don't like Alcudia beach that much as it's a bit rough around the edges and is too touristy for my liking however it is very popular. The town of Alcudia itself is pleasant, very historical and surrounded by medieval walls that you can walk along. It's also easier to visit other towns along the east coast as well as the caves of Arta which are much better than the Drach caves. I think the 4 year old would enjoy Alcudia beach more as the water is calmer due to it being located within a bay and there are more amenities.

Soller is in the Tramuntana mountains, a UNESCO heritage site, and is a fabulous town to explore. I love the mountain towns and villages and it's a perfect location to drive an explore however be aware that the roads are very windy and the locals like to drive faster than is advisable. It's also perfect hiking territory although July might be too warm for some of the more strenuous routes. There are two beaches in Port de Soller and they are popular and therefore do get busy in the summer. You can visit some secluded cove beaches in the vicinity but it's a bit of a trek to reach them and more hassle than it's worth with a young child in tow.

The beauty of Mallorca is that any part of the island can be reached in less than an hour so it's easy to travel to any of the beaches on the island i you don't want to be confined to the closest one. I'm assuming you'll be renting cars?

Thank you JC for your response. We are planning on getting 3 cars since there will be so many of us and so that we can split up when we want to. I just want to make sure that there’s enough to do and see close by so that we don’t have to spend our whole vacation driving somewhere else. I know that my 25 yr old daughter wants to go to the beach more than once (even though we’ll have a pool), so hopefully the beaches near Sóller are nice

Don't worry, there's plenty to see and do close to both locations as well as a reasonable drive away so your decision making will likely boil down to which property you prefer.

This is the website I typically recommend for all things Mallorca, it's very useful:
