Sobrino de Botin for Suckling Pig in Madrid???????

Flying out on March 22nd for our 7th RS tour. Really looking forward to our first trip to Spain. We will be part of the March 26-April 2 tour. Additional days added to the front and the end of the tour to explore other cities not covered on the tour.
A family friend from Madrid suggested we have dinner at Sobrino de Botin for the suckling pig while we are in Madrid. Would love feedback from the forum on this restaurant and/or others you would recommend.
I am sure our guide, Jorge Roman, will be able to give us guidance but I prefer to make a few reservations prior to leaving for the trip.
Thanks for the feedback in advance!

It is one of the oldest restaurants continuously operating in the world... since 1725 (yeah, 1725!)... they must be doing something right I guess :)) Lovely setup, good food, bit pricey and, if you are into it, full of VIPs and wannabes alike.

Botin has a lot of historic character and the food is good. I wasn't blown away by the food and have had better suckling pig, but you won't be disappointed either.

Casa Mingo is a great place for roast chicken and cider. No reservations and it's open all day (great for when you want an "early" dinner). Some of the best roast chicken I've had and really good Spanish cider. Roast chicken (and sides) is all they do though, so be aware it's not like a regular restaurant.
