Small Village for a couple of weeks in Northern Spain

We want to hang out in a guesthouse or homestay for at least a week in the north of Spain.
Any suggestions? We are retired teachers who prefer the off the track experience embedded in the everyday life of real people.

Thanks for any suggestions. We head for Pamplona after four busy days in Barcelona.

Check out Getaria, near San Sebastian. Beautiful little town on the Bay. Friendly people, great restaurants. We landed there by accident last summer and fell in love. We're leaving for our annual Spain trip next Weds. and we're hoping to stop there for dinner one night.

What's the north of Spain? Corel to Coruna is something like six hundred miles as the crow flies, maybe nine by road.

How do you plan to get there, car or public transportation?

How are you going to get around once you arrive?

Mountains, beaches?

How's your Spanish - - since you want to imbed yourselves?

Thanks for ideas. We are using public transit and would like to stay in Spain as our language basics are better here. Survival. We would like names of villages around 5,000 and near hills or mountains before we head west to the coast. But we appreciate any advice. Thank you.
