hello again, I’m hoping someone can help with this. given that Pamplona is too expensive during San Fermin, and SS is also spendy, I’m looking for somewhere more off the beaten path, but that also has good bus and/or train options. I plan to stay there for two nights, with one day devoted to Pamplona for the festival. thank you for your suggestions!

Close to Pamplona to the west you have Cizur Mayor and Menor, both with Villavesa buses.
Also very close to Pamplona is Noain where the airport is, and to the southeast is Sarriguren, again with Villavesa buses.
Further out, try Puente la Reina. There should be special bus service for the corridas. Beyond that is Estella. They will have buses to Pamplona (little know fact, the white clothes and red scarf is the proper fiesta were for Estella, and it was people from there who went to Pamplona to run with the bulls, and the Pamplonians copied it)
If you are looking south, try Olite or Tafalla. Like other villages in Navarra, there should be buses to the San Fermines.
