We are planning a two week visit to Andalucia in February 2024, with one week in Sevilla, and another week is some smaller town. We would plan to rent a car for that second week. We like to settle in one town and take day trips of an hour or less to area attractions. A town with a few restaurants for some choice for dinner, but also relaxing place to stay and get to know the place. We are slow travelers and independent.
Is this your first trip to Andalucia? If so, do you plan to take a day trip (or two) to Cordoba while you're staying in Seville?
Andalucia is quite large. We can give much better advice if you tell us what places you hope to visit from your second base. What works for visiting Granada wouldn't be so convenient for hitting some of the white towns like Arcos de la Frontera, or for a trip to Cadiz.
Yes, first trip to Andalucia and first real trip to Spain (23 hours in Madrid once after missing flight connection).
We don't have any must see, but are just happy to enjoy what we do see. Outdoor scenery, castles or grand houses, gardens, churches, art museums are all on desirable list. Not beach lovers, so no real desire for Costa del Sol.
I see that Cordoba is about 90 minutes from Seville, so there is possibility of day trip by train or bus while staying in Seville. But we do like to sleep in same place for many nights instead of keeping moving.
I’ll simply say to avoid staying in any of the small coastal towns that are usually busy with tourists during the summer. By late September they pretty much shut down and there are fewer lodging and dining options. With a rental car I’d stick with places like Córdoba, Malaga, Baeza, Úbeda, or Granada and take day trips. Where you stay will depend on what you like to do.
