Traveling on American Airlines from JFK to BCN. Does the Barcelona airport have showers in order to freshen up before proceeding on a journey into Spain? If no showers are available, does anyone have a suggestion? Any other airlines?
Why don't you check with your airline? There are no public showers that I can see, but it appears that some VIP lounges have them. On the American Airllines website they should have a listing of the accomodations at all airports that they service.
I'd be surprised if an airport had "public" showers. Would also be surprised if a train station had them.
However, many premium airline lounges have them. You could look into buying a daypass from American with either dollars or miles.
Phred, Gatwick Airport outside of London had great public showers about 13 to 15 years ago. When British Airways started flying from Denver to Heathrow Airport instead of Gatwick, that shower option went away, but a lot about flying has changed since then.
Heathrow had public showers when I went through there a few years ago. Don't know about now.
No public showers, but in private lounges there are all sorts of services. If you're a frequent traveller check with your airline re:bilateral agreements. Or else: http://www.premium-traveller.com/en/ for a day pass, but it's pricey, be warned.
Another option is a "day room" at a hotel. This can be harder to find out about but they exist.
I found this site (no idea if it's legit)

I know that several hotels near CDG in Paris and in other major cities do this, it's pretty common but you have to find them by calling or just going in to ask, you generally can't book on line!
