Is there a common day most stores close in Spain? We'll be in Valencia
Most stores are closed on Sundays, but it´s not the same thing all over Spain.
Hi, while not wanting to disagree, "In a big city like Valencia you will be sure to find larger department stores open 7 days a week, like El Corte Ingles." This is NOT the case. Most, if not all, El Corte Ingés stores throughout Spain are CLOSED on Sunday. Their mini-express supermarket chain — SuperCor — IS open on Sundays — many through 8am to 1am.
in general most neighborhood stores, apart from bakeries and news vendors, as a rule, close lunchtime (mid-afternoon U:S. time) Saturday and are not open on Sunday.
Supermarkets and department stores are open until 9pm or 9.15pm on Saturdays and CLOSED on Sunday.
Yes, sure, there are exceptions, such as local 24/7s, or 7/11s; and cities such as Barcelona have regulated zones, such as Maremagnum, and the city center tourist zone, where stores can open on Sunday through the year.
Also, cities, such as Barcelona, have a certain number of Sundays (often coinciding with the lead-in to important holidays) when stores are permitted to trade.
However, never bank on a store being open on a Sunday.
Enjoy your visit.
