Hello,
I'm traveling to Barcelona in a week. The Air B&B I have booked is asking me to send a copy of my passport to them. Has anyone else had this experience? Is this common practice?

Yes and it's required by the country, same as hotels copying your passport

Yes, many want a photo of your passport. Basically the check in is contact free, like a number of types of lodging, and the information is required by the government.
Your passport contains no information that is sensitive, unless you fudge on your age.
I always have photos of my wife and my passport in my phone for this purpose.
