I hope to be in Seville in early October and would love to take a day trip to Morocco. A lot of people say its disappointing and very touristy..what isn't! Just wondering if there are recommendations for such a tour that would be decent. THanks
We did a day trip from Tarifa to Morocco.
It included transportation, a guide and a meal. A real tourist trap trip. If you can find a real experience somehow then go.
Our host, Rick, has written extensively about day trips to Morocco from Spain. I would point out that Seville is not very close to the ferry. We did a daytrip from Ronda to Gibraltar (i.e. almost within Spain), and it was a long, hot, tedious drive - on excellent roads, but much slow truck traffic holding us back. You may be reaching too far for a single day.
I will comment that we went on a small-ship cruise that made two stops in Morocco, at Casablanca and Agadir (for Marrakesh). Despite the advantage of waking up in the ports noted, I will say that our visits, while "authentic", were pretty touristy and superficial. I don't mean that I know a lot about Morocco - only that I didn't learn many secrets from what I saw.
As Tim says, suggest you read Rick's 2 distinctly different commentaries/advice on a day trip to Morocco from Andalusia. One is more "positive" (i.e., biased) but the other of his 2 sets of advice is more balanced and realistic. If you read those, you may realize that the day trip is more of a mixed bag than you might have thought--read Rick's more balanced advice to see why.
Tangier isn't worth the effort to get to it. But if you must, I think you really need to spend the night before the excursion much closer to the ferry port than Seville. If you don't do that, you'll arrive in Tangier not much earlier than the time you need to board the ferry to return. I believe I've read that sometimes weather conditions keep the ferries in port. Assuming I'm not mistaken about that, just how much time are you willing to risk on a trip that may not actually happen and, if it does, will result in a really poor look at a fascinating country?
Have you already allocated sufficient time for the wonderful cities and towns in Andalucía--Seville, Cordoba, Ronda, the white villages, Malaga, Ubeda/Baeza (plus more)?
Finally, my hat off to acraven for not being afraid to say a place may not be worth the effort....
Here's an alternative excursion - Italica, followed by strolling and a Tapas Crawl through Carmona. I thought that was more rewarding than a trip to Jerez, in fact.

You'll find that most of us who have been to Tangier will repeatedly advise not to go. This is a trip that often pops up on this forum and the overwhelming advice is not to bother. I've formed the impression however that for many this advice falls on deaf ears. It seems the allure of being able to say "I've been to Africa" is more important than whether the journey is a waste of time.
Agree with JC, think it's the bragging factor of international travel at work.
Thanks guys! I seriously appreciate your honest comments and will take suggestions under advisement! I might just plan to do Morocco at another time and go to places like Fez, Marrakech and Rabat.
Yes! Do a real visit. It is a great place. And you seem already to know that Casablanca is not a place to spend any time beyond what is needed for logistical reasons.
While I wouldn’t do a day trip (not enough time to really explore), my husband and I took 24 hours in Tangier and had a great time with our biggest regret being that we should have spent more time there. I think it’s hard to get past the touristy stuff with the short amount of time that you will have with only the time between ferries. I would also recommend that you don’t go from Seville straight to Tangier - it’s further than you probably think.
Finally, a boatload of people recommended against our going when we asked a similar itinerary question when we went, and I’m very glad that we went anyway.
I will be doing my first trip to Spain this april but visited Morroco last year. Its a beautiful country but Tangier does not hold a candle to Fez, chefchouan and Marrakesh. I would stick to Spain on this trip and do Morroco separately.
You really can't do a same-day roundtrip by bus and ferry. The first bus departs Seville about 9:00 to arrive in Tarifa around noon, then you must check in a bit early for the ferry, so you should plan to sleep in either Tarifa or Tangier if following that route.
There are nonstop flights from Seville to Rabat, Tangier, Marrakech, and Fes, but not all operating daily. Try www.skyscanner.com for more specifics around your dates.
