Seville to Madrid - Stop in Cordoba on the way?

We are planning to take a train from Seville to Madrid in late May. One of the suggested options is to stop over for the day in Cordoba vs. heading straight to Madrid. I have learned that the dates we will be traveling are the dates of the 2018 Cordoba fair.

Meanwhile, we have 4 nights in Madrid - but have to leave for our flight early the last morning.

My question is would you recommend stopping in Cordoba on a fair day or should we go straight from Seville to Madrid? We will need to find a place to store our luggage if we stop in Cordoba.

This will be our first trip to Spain so we've never been to either Cordoba or Madrid.

So our choices are:

Get to Madrid by mid day, and then spend 4 nights and 3 1/2 days in Madrid

or

Stop in Cordoba for the day (arrive in Madrid at night), and then spend 4 nights in Madrid but just 3 days.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Are you big art fans? If not, I'd make the stop in Cordoba. If you want to really take in every painting hanging in the Prado, Reina Sofia and Thyssen museums, plus see some other key sights I Madrid, you have a tougher decision to make. A fair number of people spend four nights in Madrid and take two day-trips (typically to Toledo and Segovia), so it depends on your priorities.

Cordoba was our favorite town of our trip to Spain. The Mezquita is beautiful! So I vote for stopping in Cordoba - even spending 1N if you could spare an extra night. Enjoy!

I’m with Morgan. I spent 2 nights in Cordoba, and loved the Mezquita, as well as the town and its other sites. Madrid is a much newer city, and while it was nice and has many great works of art, I found it the least special of the many cities and towns I visited while in Spain. Sorry, Madrid.

Thank you for the helpful replies about luggage and the bus station. We are doing Seville - Madrid in early June and plan to stop in Cordoba. How much time should one allow in Cordoba? We will be there on a Monday and I am aware that the palace is closed on Monday. We can't stay overnight as we have a morning flight out of Marid on Tuesday.
