Is this route intact? I've seen comments that there is construction. Thanks.
Yes, it is under construction which requires a transfer to a bus. Frankly, the ALSA bus has always been a more convenient and easier way to get between the two cities.
'Frankly, the ALSA bus has always been a more convenient and easier way to get between the two cities.'
Not as far as I am concerned with the bus station at the edge of Granada city and a now, probably, convoluted journey using the urban bus network or taxi to your accommodation or destination incurring more time and expence. The train journey or the present train and bus with RENFE is near centre to near centre.
Thank you for both responses.
How easy is it to get to Plaza Nueva from the bus station as compared to the train station?
Right now I'd opt for the ALSA bus. The train station is easier when everything is working as usual, but with the line construction it's different. I have not been since the construction began, but it just seems like a lot to mess with when the bus is about as fast anyway.
I have taken a cab from the bus station to plaza nueva. I don't remember the exact cost, but I want to say under 10Euros. It's not a long ride, or expensive, and saves hassle vs. taking a local bus etc.
Do you have luggage?
From the train station 30 minutes walk perhaps with a roller case, 20-25 minutes without, taxi in 5, walk to the top of the road and take a bus.
From the bus station is a two bus journey and 3 minutes walk, the bus detail I would have to look up as I took a taxi at €8 to just beyond the train station the last twice.
Mira - What 'mess'? When you admit to not knowing.
I'm not at my full capacity as I have an injured leg, so I'll take taxi. Using the bus would seem a little easier as there won't be a need to transfer from the train to the bus. And yes, I will have luggage.
As for the ALSA bus, are there major differences between Normal and Supra Economy?
Thanks.
I personally find switching modes of transport mid-journey "messy" no matter how well they are handled. I take direct flights and trains if at all possible, even at higher cost.
Yes, I don't know the details here, but I personally would rather sit on one mode of transport until my destination than switch. In this case, you can't do that with the train. You can with the bus. Easy call for me. Then a cab if luggage/mobility is an issue. The train station is closer, but not enough to justify the switching TO ME.
Basically, to me consistency is better. Opinions will vary, of course. It's a judgement call. Again, my opinion.

Actually neither train station is very close to the center where tourists are mostly staying. The bus station in Sevilla is pretty close to the center and the one in Granada is a little further out than the train station. A taxi is quick and pretty inexpensive to all the bus and train stations.
The bus offers far more trips and takes the same amount of time (at least when the train was running direct).
Granada has never been well connected by train to the rest of Spain but the current project is part of a long term effort to improve rail service.
Direct train from Seville Santa Justa to Santa Ana Antuquerra ( 2 hr) and then bus journey to Granada ( 1 hr)
