Seville to Cordoba to Valencia

Hi,

I'm flying into Seville this Friday afternoon and flying out from Valencia on the following Tuesday afternoon.
I plan to stay in Seville and then travel to Valencia on Sunday, with a stopover at Cordoba for a few hours to view the mosque. The rest of the time will be at Valencia.

Is train the easiest way to travel? It seems that there is only one train timing a day from Cordoba to Valencia, and only one a day for Seville to Valencia.

Is my plan possible?

Thank you.

Regards,
Joyce

'Is train the easiest way to travel?' - Well you only have bus or car rental as the alternatives, what do you think 'easiest'? Most comfortable and least stressful, yes.

'It seems that there is only one train timing a day from Cordoba to Valencia, and only one a day for Seville to Valencia.' - Big ? - There are about thirty journeys a day between Seville and Cordoba. There are two direct journeys Cordoba to Valencia which suit in the evening.

'Is my plan possible?' - Yes, but you will be visiting on a Sunday and there are less hours available to you as it will be being used for the Catholic services. Do you have the times?

Thanks! I don't know why in the rome2rio website it was telling me only once a day... thank you for the reply!

I just looked on renfe.com The 17.40 train is full. There are still tickets available for the 19.09 train. Those are the only trains that show up on the website.

Another option is to just take the AVE to Madrid and then take an AVE from there to Valencia. A direct train might be more convenient, but you'll have lots and lots of options doing it this way. Use the renfe website, not any others. If you want to buy tickets now, use Paypal as getting a credit card to work is very difficult.

'I just looked on renfe.com The 17.40 train is full. There are still tickets available for the 19.09 train. Those are the only trains that show up on the website.' -That's what I said - two journeys for the second leg which suit - time now for Joyce to purchase for the second journey if wanting.

Neil, the plan was to go to Cordoba on Sunday, on the way to Valencia. But there seems to be limited opening hours at the Mezquita on Sundays. Would it be better then to do Seville -> Cordoba -> Seville on Saturday...then travelling Seville -> Valencia on Sunday?

Thank you.

Joyce, how much do you want to see Cordoba -- we did it as a half-day trip from Seville and returned for a flamenco show in Seville in the evening. Lots of trains for this short trip.

Hi Joyce,

The Mezquita in Cordoba is open on Sundays from 08:30-11:30 & 15:00-18:00. The Chritian altar is accessible only after 11:00 unless you attend Mass. You could take an afternoon train to Cordoba from Sevila, store you bags at the bus station across the street from the train station, spend a few hours seeing the Mezquita and Jewish quarter, then catch the 19:09 direct train from Cordoba to Valencia, arriving at 22:15. There are trains almost hourly, but these involve a train change in Madrid and only take an hour longer. See www.renfe.com for schedules and prices.

Another option would be to go to Cordoba on Saturday as a day trip from Sevilla, then fly to Valencia from Sevilla on Sunday. Iberia has 2 evening flights for $186 per person. See www.skyscanner.com for details.

Laura, would you recommend that particular Flamenco show? Do I need to book in advance?

I need some really quick help! renfe.com says the train is full from Cordoba to Valencia at 5.40pm, but raileurope.com seems to say it's available. Is raileurope.com reliable?

raileurope.com is an agency, charges extra accordingly and is unrelaible in it's provision of schedule information.
I have no idea about your circumstance as no one who knows 'stuff' about the European rail network would be dealing with them (or any other agency for that matter). As any agency has to purchase from renfe I would not bank on this being available when you finish the process of purchase.

As an afterthought I have just run your detail at (a better agency imho) www.loco2.com and they will not confirm the booking.

Thanks, you are right. At the end of payment, they told me they couldn't complete the booking.

You might check in person at the train station in Sevilla, they could have some tickets available for purchase in person. Otherwise, as stated earlier, you could always take one of the other trains changing in Madrid. Since they are almost hourly and only take an additional hour, this could still be a good option.

I would also suggest for this late stage and if you are purchasing 'walk up' tickets is to travel to Cordoba as a day trip from Sevilla on Saturday, then travel to Valencia via Madrid late Sunday by AVE high speed train. You might also like to look at flights Sevilla-Valencia.
