We (2 people) are planning to travel Seville to La Linea (Oct 2?) and then after a visit to Gibraltar following day from La Linea to Marbella (Oct 4?). Perhaps because it is months away I am having trouble figuring out our transit options. Is there daily bus service on these routes? What are options? How far ahead should I book? (I don’t want the expense of a private car and driver.)
I can only respond to part of you question. If traveling by train you’d need to get to Algeciras and from it take to bus to La Línea de la Concepción, then walk across the border. The bus ride should take between 20-25 minutes. The schedule shows time for busses going in each direction. The top of the page is going (ida) while the return (vuelta) to Algeciras is beneath it. You can download the timetable as a pdf. A one-way ticket is €1.50.
L-V = Monday through Friday (Lunes - Viernes)
D = Sunday (Domingo)
S = Saturday (Sábado)
Thank you. That explains part of the trouble I was having. Looks like lots of daily options.
Alsa run the Seville to La Linea route several times a day-https://www.alsa.com/en/web/bus/home
(their schedules are only out a maximum 6 months ahead, Alsa are part of the UK National Express Group). You can book Alsa up until day of travel, but fares are keener further out, starting 6 months before.
Avanza Bus run from both La Linea (several times a day) and Algeciras (hourly or better) to Marbella. I just turned up and travelled, they do do bookings, but with such a good service, doubt it's really necessary except for peace of mind.
Avanza are the company I could find on a quick search, but there used to be several competing on the coastal route.
