We are staying 3 nights in Seville in October. I have booked a couple hotels as I am still unsure despite reviews. We have a deluxe room at the Palacio De Villapanes but worry it may be semi underground? Has anyone stayed there?
We want a nice room but not a small bed. I get a bit confused as to the descriptions.
Thanks for any help.
You don't say what your budget is, although if you're considering the Palacio De Villapanes you're obviously not short of a bob or two! I'd be amazed if any of its rooms are "semi-underground", some will be at patio level which could be lower than the entrance, but doesn't mean underground - perhaps that's what you read? It's a design feature of some patios that you step down to them from the entrance hall (which you stepped up into to enter from the street), but you are still above ground in terms of outside views.
Anyway, I can't afford to stay there, sadly, so not sure what it's like - utterly brilliant, I imagine - but be aware it is a little away from the central area where the catedral/alcazar are, for example; although Alfalfa, nearly where its located, has its own sights. And its just a short walk, in opposite directions to the wonderful Palacio de las Duenas and the Casa de Pilatos, both of which are must sees.
If you want somewhere a bit less grand (but well-located and with decent sized rooms, comfy bed, tea-making facilities and a good breakfast), then we liked the 4-star Hotel Inglaterra, which is within spitting distance of the Ayuntamiento (town hall).
That looks like a gorgeous hotel. Is "deluxe" the least expensive room? If so, you might be better off with a better room at a less expensive hotel.
In October 2017, we loved the Hotel Becquer. Our room was a good size, but the bathroom was enormous. I can honestly describe the service as "sweet" - they were that nice. We walked everywhere except the train station.
I'm not sure what level of service you are looking for, but we absolutely loved El Rey Moro is the old Jewish Quarter. It was convenient to the cathedral and alcazar and the property has so much traditional, local charm. The rooms surround a huge patio. The breakfast was amazing and included waitress served coffee, tea, etc. and fresh made sunny side up eggs. It was extremely well priced for something so central and charming.
Thanks for the replies. We do have a deluxe room at this hotel and hearing that it is a little away from things I prob will cancel. Rooms are now coming up non-refundable to need make sure. Will take a look at some of the choices you all have given me.
Will post another question about travel choices.
