Seville - doing Cathedral and Alcazar the same day?

Hi everyone,

I will be in Seville for 3 nights (although first night will be after a long train ride from Barcelona) in September. I want to visit Alcazar and the Cathedral. I see from Google maps that they are really close to each other so I thought I could visit them on the same day. Should I do one or the other first? And how much time should I budget for each?

Yes, you can easily see them both in a day as they are right next to each other. The Alcazar gets busier, so I'd book that for the morning and plan on about 2 to 2.5 hours. Then do the cathedral after lunch - I don't think you'd need more than 90 minutes there.

Definitely doable. I would go to the Alcazar first thing when it opens in the morning. It can be hot in Sevilla and seeing the Alcazar when it's cooler is of greater importance.

I agree, do the Cathedral in the afternoon, and that gives you flexibility if you’re doing any of the optional roof/tower climb afterwards. Buy your tickets as soon as they’re available for the Alcazar.

Thanks everyone! Looks like I'll do Alcazar first and the cathedral in the afternoon.

I’ll be arriving in Seville at midday on the day I arrive. Is it realistic to think I could see both the cathedral AND the alcazar that afternoon or is that too much?

Do not try to cram both the Alcazar and the Cathedral into one afternoon. If you are not going to observe the details properly, skip and Cathedral and focus on the Alcazar.

@steve.b - Of course you can do both in an afternoon if you plan ahead and purchase tickets in advance. The consensus here on the forum seems to be that the Alcazar is the most impressive/important sight in Seville. We did not find it so. We much preferred the Cathedral (especially the rooftop tour), Plaza de Espana and just wandering Seville. But, do not be deterred. If that is what you want to do and the time you have, go for it!

You can visit the cathedral, climb the Giralda bell tower, and visit the Alcazar all in one day, but I would not rush thru them both in one afternoon. That doesn’t do either any justice, and is more just checking off items on a bucket list. I suggest starting out early to give yourself enough time, with a lunch break between.
