Seville, Cordoba, Granada, Nerja, Malaga.

We are 3 sisters in our 60's and we are flying into Seville from NZ, 2nd week in September for 2 weeks. We plan to stay in Seville for 5 nights and do day trips to Cadiz and Jerez, we will have our accommodation booked with Airbnb for these nights. However we like to be very flexible and book accommodation ahead by only a couple of days, leaving us free to spend more time ( or less) in any one place. This worked well for us on our last trip to Spain and Portugal in October 2016. I know that we will need to lock in Granada for the Alhambra. My question is: is winging it feasible given that it will be the 2nd and 3rd week of September? Has anyone done this in September? We will be using public transport but we travel lightly.
Thank you.

It is easier to wing it now more than ever;
you just need to have a smart phone or tablet and somewhere ideally your lodging to have good WiFi so you access the internet and book things. it also helps to have aps for lodging and transportation installed on your mobile device.
But you have to keep in mind that you will pay more in some cases by booking on the fly than well in advance. Especially the long distance high speed rail trains that require reservations.

And it's important to be aware of public holidays and special events that could cause spikes in demand.

What is your plan in Jerez de la Frontera? you must to visit all the fantastic wineries you can find on the city.

I will go to Jerez and Sevilla next month, so we can talk about tips in the city.

Adittionally, you can get information with the Consejo Regulador del Vino de Jerez, they know about Sherry Wine

We are going to visit the Alhambra in April. As of last week, they were all sold out for our day!
Our hotel has reserved tickets for us (at a fee of 5 Euro each) - better than nothing.

I clicked forward on the Alhambra calendar and they showed as being sold out through the summer.
But, again, I only cared about our one day in April - but was trying to figure out if there was an error on their website.

My point being - get your tickets for Alhambra TODAY and don't delay

Hi Valante, we were just planning a day trip to Jerez. I would love to hear any tips you have after your trip there. Thanks.

Thanks for the heads up Evan. We still have to book our flights yet! We can't decide which country to see, after Spain. As soon as we do, I will look at booking for the Alhambra. Great that your hotel could help you out. Have you booked your accommodation all the way?

Yes. My wife and I are flying to Barcelona. A son and wife will join us for Madrid and Andalucia.
I had the hotels and Airbnb booked by Christmas (for April 4 flight).

I slowed down on planning because 1) I didn't realize they sold out 3 months in advance and 2) we hadn't settled on an entry time (you have a 1/2 timeslot to enter the palace.

It has been said here that the hotels of Granada have access to 400 (or 600?) tickets per day.
Our daughter-in-law doesn't have her passport yet. The hotel asked for her (all of our) passport # for the Alhambra tickets.

Alhambra tickets don’t go on sale until 3 months prior; and yes, they do go very fast. If your preferred time slot is sold out, another way to go about getting tickets is to buy Granada Cards on line for €40 which also include entrance to other attractions and buses within the city; and passport information isn’t required.

Thanks Anniek. I've looked up the Granada site but still don't quite understand. With the card, can you get into the Alhambra, even though it may be booked out for the day?

I recently had this problem of not being able to buy Alhambra passes on their website for the dates that I’ll be in Granada in April; however with the Granada Card, I was able to reserve the date and time I preferred. It also gives you entrance to other sites and inter-city buses during your entire stay in Granada. en.granadatur.com

1) The few city cards I've looked into cost more than the sites I know I want to visit.
2) I'd assume (for safety sake) that the card even would have limited slots available for a date. Otherwise they'd lose control of the crowd. Therefore, I wouldn't get lulled into inaction on booking. Us this card as an alternate way of booking but still progress.
