Seville Cathedral Question(s)

Hello Fellow Travelers.

I will be in Seville in early October and am planning on visiting the Cathedral. I saw on the official web page that they sometimes offer tours of the stained glass windows that includes walking up in the balconies along the nave to get a closer look, but when I inquired the Cathedral said they only offer this particular in Spanish right now. I'm wondering if it's possible to walk up to those balconies on your own without being part of a tour.

I'm also curious to know what the differences are between the tours offered officially through the cathedral and the more general ones offered by private guides. Aside from the special rooftop tour are their significant differences?

I have not taken a tour, but I was blown away by the cathedral. I’ve been to many, and this one is spectacular. Go early. We had timed tickets for right when it opened. I chose to immediately explore the cathedral, while my sister went up to the rooftop. By the time she joined me an hour later, it was PACKED with tour groups. This was in April. I did not see any way to walk up to the balconies. I’ve found that tours offered by sites are usually very good and well priced compared to private guides. I would not hesitate to take one there.

We took the Rooftop Tour and I'm pretty sure that we stopped at the upper level that was closer to the stained glass. It was only for a few minutes---maybe someone else can confirm. The description of the Rooftop tour mentions the stained glass. I don't know if you can walk up there on your own. If it's really important to you, get tickets for the Spanish tour. At least you'll get there! The cathedral is huge and very impressive. The audio guide was very informative.

I don’t remember getting a close look at the stained glass windows on the rooftop tour. But, for us, the rooftop tour was a highlight of Seville. Highly recommend.
