Seville - Cathedral and Giralda and Alcazar Tickets

I know that there has been a lot of activity about this issue. We will be in Seville the first week in September, and we are limited to visiting the Cathedral and Alcazar on Friday afternoon and Saturday, because my husband has meetings. We tried for days to purchase tickets on the Real Alcazar's official site (the one recommended by RS), and the transaction would not go through. Over three days, we used two different computers (PC and Apple) and three different credit cards, trying different combinations of dates and times. We contacted our bank card, and they never received any to the attempts to charge tickets. They can do nothing. There is nothing wrong with our card or credit. We have charged tickets for Cordoba's Mezquita and Granada's Alhambra, not to mention tickets on Iberia Express. We called InfoTicketing, the site that handles the tickets, and they told us nothing was wrong with their site, although there have been multiple complaints about this issue. We finally paid more than twice as much for a tour. Now, I am having the same problem with the Cathedral. I don't want an Alcazar-Cathedral combination tour, because we prefer to stay inside longer than the tour. I refuse to pay close to $100 for two tickets to go into the Cathedral and Giralda. Does anyone recommend a ticket company with reasonable tickets or any other method. Thanks

I also had problems with Alcazar tickets. Finally, after multiple calls I tried my debit card and it went through. One mistake I found was in entering your phone number. You have to put in the country code, area code and number. Good luck!

Hi,
Trouble with their website. Welcome to a growing club. I paid about $22 for tickets and they never sent them to me. I have been charged on my credit card, they got that correct. When I went to them in person, they just blew me off with, "you must have made a mistake". Yeah, I made a mistake. I used their website.

No refund, nothing. Even with photos of the website showing I had paid. You might ask, "Who takes photos of an on-going purchase?" Well I was dealing with a Spanish website...and several of their web sites I used were, what do you say? They were funky. And clunky. I don't want to paint every website as bad, just too many of the ones I attempted to use. Look up their record for the the national train ticket system, or Iberia, or even the Alhambra, although they are getting their act together.

Sorry to hear about your difficulties. On the other hand Sevilla is a nice city. The cathedral is OK. Go north at least five blocks from the cathedral. See the mushroom or umbrella towqaard evening. Beautiful. And a happening area. It is a clever design to produce shade on a plaza. Nice neighborhood. And there is the Plaza de Espania (or something like that) but that is more south from the cathedral. Built for a 1930 European World's Fair that never happened due to the collapse.

And one more warning. The official city map has North off to the the left, not toward the top of the map. Just in case you use a map and navigate with the sun.

Thanks, we are looking forward to visiting Sevilla and Andalucia. Still need Cathedral and Giralda tickets.

Personally, the cathedral is not worth crying over if you miss it. Giralda may take a bit more effort, but are you in Spain several days before Seville tourist day? A Spanish tourist bureau may be able to help.
Is it vital to book either ahead of time? I went in early November. No lines for Cathedral but I didn't visit Giralda.

Same issue for Alcazar online ticket. After we called MC company (seems they locked our MC) that solved the problem. Try different Credit card and call them before you purchase the ticket.

Thank you, we tried two different MasterCards and VISA. None of the transactions went through. We called MasterCard, and they told us that southern Spain was not blocked, and unless the transaction reached the bank (which none from the Alcazar had), that there was nothing that they could do. By the way, we had no trouble when visiting Barcelona four years ago. Our cards work for everything else in Spain except Seville's Alcazar. There is a problem with their website, but they refuse to admit it. We have booked with a tour group, most of which have mediocre reviews, and paid more than twice as much. We will have to listen to the tour in both Spanish and English, which means that the tour guides will probably have thick accents, and we will understand very little of what they are saying. Would prefer the self-guided tour and an audioguide, which RS says is good.

As far as using debit cards, I have read a lot about not using debit cards abroad.

Rick has a solution for buying a ticket in Seville and avoiding the line at the cathedral in his book. It worked for me during Holy Week, so it's solid.

If PayPal is an option, paying that way often gets around website payment problems, according to online comments. I have no idea whether the Spanish websites you're dealing with offer that payment choice. I also don't know whether you'd run into an ugly conversion rate if you used PayPal. However, any extra charge on such moderately priced tickets would be much less expensive than taking a tour you do not want.

You do not want to stand in the cathedral ticket line in September, when it could still be very, very hot.

Previously, you could beat the line at the Cathedral by buying a combo ticket at the Church of El Salvador. It looks like they have changed things up a bit, but there are still ways to skip the queue at the Cathedral. This article may help (it is Google Translated, so you may need to work around that)

Sometimes, you end up paying more for convenience or guaranteed entry. Not fun, particularly if it is only due to computer glitches.
Do either of these cards have a system like Verified by Visa? Sometimes you can speak to the card company to have that added or activated which may make it easier to complete these on line systems.
I don't think it really matters how many times you call the bank, they don't seem to understand the problem, and as far as they are concerned, the card works. It is certainly not to do with making a transaction away from your home state.

Thanks everyone, I tried the link that was given for the Cathedral. It is a good link (more reasonable ticket prices), and I recommend it to others. Unfortunately, my husband has meetings and cannot make the morning times, and the evening time is late, and I think we will not see as much from the Giralda. So, I have booked a tour on Friday afternoon (hoping my husband can get there). I am not happy, but what can you do? Unfortunately, I believe that many of the attractions reserve a majority of their admission tickets for tour companies and tour groups. They probably take in more income (and guaranteed) that way, and I understand. Still, that leaves us independent, self-guided travelers scrambling for what's left. I didn't book earlier, because many sites wouldn't book more than three months in advance.

The Church of El Salvador was where I bought the combo ticket that also admitted me to the Cathedral. I walked right up to the counter at El.Salvador and.got the ticket immediately. The ticket-seller told me not to wait in the line at the Cathedral. I showed the ticket to the person policing the Cathedral line and was waved over to the door. This was less than two months ago, Holy Week 2019.
