Sevilla to Barcelona to Toronto - Airport timing for multi-flights

Hello - I've looked through this forum and seen similar ideas but not quite the same scenario so looking for advice on airport arrival timing. I know there are a lot of variables when it comes to flights, but here goes. Thanks in advance.

Timing is a Wednesday in late September 2024. Two adult travelers with carry-on bags only.
Vueling from Sevilla to Barcelona arrival 11:25AM; to catch an Air Transat 2:05PM flight to Toronto, likely advance online check-in.
It looks like different terminals at BCN for the airlines. I don't see anything about having to be at the gate x mins in advance of the Air Transat flight. Not sure if there's a standard protocol at BCN.

Is a 2hr 40min gap possible? I've seen self-directed layovers for less time and I'm not sure what the difference is. Obviously, this assumes on-time flights... but does this window leave time for any little hiccups in your experience with this airport?

Your connection will require leaving T1, bus/metro to T2 (not walkable),
and clearing immigration/security at T2. Also, you will be inside Spain, so
if by chance there are visa issues, that could be a problem.

Can you purchase both flights on the same ticket?

I would offer that 2:40 is probably enough time but it may not be all
that leisurely. And as you note, the arrival of the first flight is the major
variable. I would get seats upfront if possible.

If your vueling flight is delayed, if you can’t get on the inter terminal shuttle quickly, and/or security line at the other terminal is long, there is a chance that you may not make the flight to Toronto.

The upside is that you won’t have checked luggage so if you can check in online and you don’t have to checkin in at the airport before screening that’s a queue you can avoid.

If it’s not absolutely critical that you make that particular BCN to Toronto flight on that particular day and you can deal with staying in Spain an additional day, that will remove the time pressure element.

I think a lot of airlines want you at the gate no later than 30 minutes prior to scheduled departure. That info is typically noted on the airline website.

Thank you both!

Decided to switch around the order and book other flights. :)

Following because I have a similar situation but in reverse. Calgary to Barcelona on WestJet, then 4 hours to get EasyJet to Lisbon. Also late September; OntarioJen, maybe we'll be passing each other in the terminal.
