Sevilla--Tarifa--Tangiers Question

Would love any insight or advice. We will be in Sevilla in May. We are thinking about renting a car to drive to Tarifa and then take the ferry over for an afternoon in Tangiers. Our next destination would be Granada, but I think it is too much to try and make it to Granada that night, so I was thinking we would spend the night in Tarifa and then drive to Granada the next day.

Questions:

Has anyone done the drive from Sevilla to Tarifa? Any towns we should plan to stop in along the way?
Do you think it is possible to leave Sevilla in the morning, drive to Tarifa, go to Tangiers for 4+ hours (exclusive of roundtrip ferry time), then back to Tarifa in one day?
Should we stay in Tarifa or stay somewhere between Tarifa and Granada? If so, where?

Thanks so much for any advice!

viamichelin.com says it's over 2.5 hours to drive to Tarifa. That doesn't include any traffic problems, stops, or things like parking. From Tarifa to Granada is 3.5 hours.

Presumably you would rent the car in Seville the day before your drive, so you could start early. Depending on the ferry schedules, it would seem to be a reasonable trip, if you spend the night in Tarifa. You may want to consider checking into your hotel and leaving your luggage there before going to the ferry, rather than leaving your luggage in a parked rental car at the ferry terminal.

Whether it's worth it to spend 4+ hours in Tangiers . . .
