Sevilla's Barrio Santa Cruz

Hi all,

I have booked apartments in a handful of cities that have been a bit more out of the way than I would've liked. Sevilla seems very walkable, yet it is still a city. I find that many times when Google Maps says something is, for example, 8 minutes away, it is really 15.

Can someone tell me what are the boundaries of Barrio Santa Cruz? Is it Calle Aqua by Jardin de Murillo on one side, Calle Santa María la Blanca, Calle Mateos Gago and Ave de la Constitucion on the others? I have found great apartments on all four of these streets.

Rick says to consider Giralda the exact center of Sevilla and go out from there.

For those of you who have been, is the west side of Barrio Santa Cruz (Calle Santa Maria la Blanca by Hotel Las Casas de La Judería) too far to "pop" over to Triana and Plaza Nueva for a pre-dinner drink? Google Maps says it is 14 minutes, but is it really a half hour? (We will be there in December so the crowds will be different than an off-season month.)

I know some people love the less touristy neighborhood of El Renal, but we have never been before, and having LOVED the pedestrian center of Aix-en-Provence, I think we want to stay for our 3 weeks in the pedestrian center of Sevilla, which is Barrio Santa Cruz, right?

As always, I love ALL comments and opinions. Thank you!

Seville is blissfully walkable. From the west side of (or any side for that matter) Barrio Santa Cruz, it’s an easy 15 minute jaunt theoretically. The hidden flaw in the equation is you’ll be so enchanted with the city’s beauty your eyes will be bouncing from this building to that whilst your feet and ankles are doing hula hoops over the cobblestone streets you’ll lose all navigational fortitude, become entranced by the endless menus of intriguing tapas that it will cause sensory overload and dehydration forcing you to seek shelter and libations in some passing bodega. Once satiated, re-calibrated and relaxing in said random establishment, you might come to wonder why you were ever trying to get to Triana in the first place. In that case, order another tapa and enjoy. Otherwise, re-plot your course on google maps and ask for “la cuenta “. I’m sure it’s about 15 minutes from where you are. 😉

Sounds lovely!

So it sounds like it just doesn't matter where in Sevilla one stays.

I don’t think you can go wrong with location on any of those but the only place (of these) I have actually stayed was on Calle Mateos Gago. It is a main street so could possibly be a bit noisy. Just read your reviews carefully. But all should be good for location.
