Any opinions on staying in Barrio Santa Cruz area hotel as regards to the high volume of walking tourist traffic? Many hotel reviewers mention the crowds, and it made me consider reserving on the north side of the Cathedral instead.
We stayed at El Rey Moro -- http://www.elreymoro.com/index.php/en/. It is so buried in the Barrio Santa Cruz that the taxi had to leave us about 2 blocks away. This is the link to a nice map of where it is along with how to get there -- http://www.elreymoro.com/index.php/en/ubicacion-hotel-el-rey-moro-ing.
I don't recall any noise or crowds at all. I guess we must've been pretty comfortable there. But it was in early October (2009).
Stayed at the same place as the previous post, last fall. I had no trouble. I've also stayed in apartments in the area. In all cases, there was the basic pedestrian noise you get in any hotel in a populated area, and some annoying garbage collection in the very early AM. Again, stuff you'd get in any urban area. I wouldn't be concerned with staying in Santa Cruz, but maybe try to stay on side streets, away from busy squares. Of course, there is nothing wrong with being north of the cathedral if that's your preference. Still an easy walk to Santa Cruz for dinner and such.
Thank you, Lo and Mira. We're now trying to decide between El Moro Rey and Hotel Alminar.
Hotel Amadeus. There is a reason it is popular. Great hotel in a great location. We stayed in the Franz Liszt room (each room is named after a famous composer). Rooftop bar where you reserve tables named for the works of the famous composers. Each room in the lobby of the hotel features a different classical instrument. Nice people, too.
Hotel Simon in the shadow of the cathedral was quiet and peaceful during our stay.

Stayed at El Rey Moro. It is at ground zero tourist-wise. Noise was not an issue.
Hotel Casa 1800 Sevilla! Centrally located and wonderful afternoon tea/snacks.
