Sevilla/Cordoba Post-RS Spain Tour early November

Our RS 14 day Spain Tour ends Friday morning Nov 3 in Sevilla after spending 2 nights there. We have most of that day and another 2 nights free until we fly out at 9:40 pm Sunday from Sevilla to Barcelona. (Flights are booked) We’d like to go to Cordoba via the 45min train.

I’m looking for recommendations on how best to work our last couple of days and fit in Cordoba. (We originally planned to have another free night before flying out but that’s another story; hence what feels like “compressed” additional days.)

1) Should we stay the 2 nights in Sevilla (for a total of 4 nights) and day trip to Cordoba?

2a) Should we scoot to Cordoba for one night, then back to Sevilla for our last night (for a total of 3 nights)? There are lots of train options going; we could go earlier in the day and come back later afternoon?

2b) Should we spend a 3rd night in Sevilla, scoot to Cordoba for one night, then get back to Sevilla for our 9:40 pm flight?

3) Should we go to Cordoba for 2 nights (so 2 nights/Sevilla; 2 nights/Cordoba)? We could travel there later in the day and come back as early as we can to get more time in Sevilla before we fly out?

Lots of options, but there is not perfect solution for all travelers. One has to consider days of the week. I don't recommend a Sunday/Monday combo for Cordoba as many things are closed or shortened hours particularly in November. Cordoba offers the Medina el-Zahra just out of town...a large Arab complex ruin. Sevilla offers the third largest ancient Roman colasseum at Italica. It also depends on your pace. RS tends to do highlights, so some think a day in Cordoba is enough, but evenings give you a sense of what it is like once the tourist empty out and there is a lot more there than in his guidebooks.

If you stay in the Sevilla hotel, you travel to Cordoba without luggage, avoid one hotel check-in and check-out procedure, and perhaps would catch an earlier train to Cordoba, related to those same reasons. I like Sevilla but unfortunately cannot make an experienced comparison with Cordoba.

There are pros and cons to all your options. Cordoba's historic center is much quieter at night than Sevilla's and it is better preserved, so it's a great place to stay overnight. But that means packing, unpacking, schlepping luggage etc. I vaguely remember looking into a direct route between the Sevilla airport and Cordoba and not finding a good one. I find that on a guided tour, the string of 1- and 2-nighters is tiring, so wouldn't want to add two 1-nighters to that. But that's just me and I like a slower travel pace.

For me, the last option sounds best - if you have a place to store luggage in Sevilla. Or take an evening train to Cordoba on Friday, then take a llate afternoon train to Sevilla, then bus from the train station to the airport.

Chani's comment has me wanting to add that come November, there may be a choice of rooms available even at the last minute. See what the cancellation policies are on your seville and Cordoba hotels. Book all nights in Seville and one or two in Cordoba. Decide on whether you are interested in packing up and leaving again by date of last allowee cancellation.....or take the chnace to book for that night.
This allows you to choose once tour is ending whether you want to continue one or two night stands (when you don't have to).

Thank you so much Maria, Chani, and Laura. You've given me more to think about. I really appreciate your taking the time to input on my final-days-dilemma.
